Our History
Our vision and mission stem from the struggle Todd Lash and his family faced
with their son’s health care. When Simon was born, he experienced several
undiagnosed medical problems. Todd and his wife Tracy spent much of their time
pursuing providers and the insurance company, even with an HMO that supposedly
“eliminates the paperwork.”
The family’s Internet support group shared their frustration of keeping things
under control while managing incoming bills, out of pocket expenses, and
tracking doctor's visits. The software they were trying to use wasn’t customized
to handle medical expenses and the effect was cumbersome. Everyone in the group
agreed that there was a lot of room for improvement—both in the relationship
with their insurance provider, and in the way that they handled their family's
health care.
Health is our number one concern, yet there were very few tools to help. Now
there’s SimoHealth.
What is SimoHealth
SimoHealth is a useful and user-friendly health manager that organizes the
complexities of personal and family medical expenses and histories. Built as a
health "browser" that is simple to download and install, SimoHealth stores
sensitive user data on the hard disk and includes an Internet component that
allows users to collect and store all health information by connecting online to
providers, plans, pharmacies, and more.
In developing SimoHealth, there were two fundamental issues to address –
creating a medical history manager so users can take charge of their own health
records and developing an expense manager to empower users to make rational
economic decisions about their insurance choices. We began by interviewing
physicians, clinicians and hundreds of consumers for input. Then, based on the
founders’ expertise in designing and developing software, a team was formed to
develop SimoHealth.
Built on an open source browser-based platform, SimoHealth delivers a secure
experience that allows consumers to own and control their data. We work closely
with the open source community and leverage emerging development environments,
as well as emerging standards for healthcare IT interoperability between medical
providers and insurance carriers.
Families using SimoHealth have already seen a difference. They’ve saved valuable
time—time historically spent tracking expenses and health histories. And they’ve
saved money—sometimes thousands of dollars in appealed claims and tracked invoices.
